Board of Visitors supports student life and faculty development.

This summer 12 students will head to Heredia, Costa Rica, to the Instituto Intercultura for three weeks of study.  This is just one of many programs that began with a seed grant from the Wingate University Board of Visitors.

Chairman of the Board Dawn Eagens ‘01 notes that Wingate students and faculty have benefited from 82 grants totaling over $250,000 in seven years.  About $50,000 in grants are awarded annually to a wide variety of projects both on and off campus.  Grants are for activities not covered by the university budget.

Past grants have provided financial assistance for students to go on mission trips, beef up their writing skills at a new writing center, learn about the world through a common reading program and purchase textbooks. Faculty grants support needs such as faculty research projects, sabbatical travel and post-graduate education.

Board members meet twice a year in spring and fall.  Members serve a four-year term and give or secure a gift to the Visitors Fund each year of service and recruit one new member to the Board during their four-year term.  Board members interact with students and faculty at Board meetings and campus events.
